BUITEMS Appointed as UNAI SDG 8 Vice-Chair for Teaching and Education

The Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) has been recognized internationally for its commitment to quality education, research excellence, and sustainable development. BUITEMS has been appointed as the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) SDG Hub 8 Vice-Chair for Teaching and Education, working alongside the University of Auckland, which serves as the Global Chair for SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Founded in 1883, the University of Auckland is New Zealand’s largest and one of the world’s top-ranked institutions. It has been ranked among the top 1% globally and 4th in Oceania in the 2025 Sustainability Rankings, with exceptional performance in environmental and social impact. The University continues to lead global efforts toward sustainability, inclusion, and transformative education.

As the SDG 8 Vice-Chair, BUITEMS represents Pakistan and South Asia in advancing the UN’s global agenda for sustainable growth and quality education. With over 10,000 students, 600 faculty members, and 60 academic programs, BUITEMS has consistently demonstrated leadership in aligning education with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The university’s alumni network of 11,000 graduates and its partnerships with local and international organizations reflect its dedication to building human capital and promoting innovation in teaching and learning.

This global recognition underscores BUITEMS’ role in integrating sustainability into academic programs, research, and institutional practices. As part of its SDG 8 mandate, BUITEMS focuses on promoting decent work, entrepreneurship, community engagement, and inclusive economic opportunities through education and research.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor BUITEMS, appreciated the acknowledgment of BUITEMS’ efforts by the United Nations Academic Impact and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing sustainable and equitable education in Balochistan, Pakistan, and beyond.
