On June 17, 2025, the International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS) at BUITEMS organized its second public lecture titled “Refugee Realities in Balochistan: Navigating Marginality from Refugee Villages to Urban Settlements through a Biopolitical Lens.” Held at Pink Hall, BUITEMS, the event featured Mr. Arbab Talib Ul Maula, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees in Balochistan, as the keynote speaker.
Mr. Maula delivered a comprehensive analysis of Afghan refugee challenges in the province, highlighting issues of documentation, education, health, urban housing, and climate vulnerability. He also presented ongoing government and UNHCR-supported initiatives, including the Refugee Response Plan and RAHA Program, aimed at improving refugee welfare.
The session was attended by representatives from UNHCR, BUITEMS leadership, and students from the Faculty of Social Sciences. A dynamic Q&A session followed, reflecting BUITEMS’ commitment to informed policy dialogue and inclusive academic engagement.
This event reaffirmed BUITEMS’ role as a hub for migration research, refugee rights advocacy, and community-focused scholarship in Balochistan.
