Quetta, April 18, 2025 – The Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, visited the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) and delivered a compelling address to an audience of students, faculty, and university leadership at the BUITEMS auditorium.
During his address, Mr. Iqbal emphasized the transformative role of youth in shaping Pakistan’s future amidst complex economic and ideological challenges. “Pakistan’s enemies are working to destabilize the country,” he warned. “But our greatest strength lies in our youth. By equipping them with modern tools like laptops, artificial intelligence, and digital skills, we are building the foundation of a stronger, more resilient nation.”
The Minister also introduced the federal government’s visionary Uraan-e-Pakistan initiative, a five-year roadmap for economic revival and national transformation. He highlighted key achievements under the current administration, including:
• Reduction of inflation from 38% to 2.5%
• Decrease in central bank policy rate from 23% to 12%
• Surge in investor confidence, with the stock market crossing 115,000 points
• 30% growth in exports
• $4 billion in remittances recorded in March 2025 alone
Mr. Iqbal encouraged students to move beyond passive social media engagement and take an active role in national development. “Social media should be a tool for learning and empowerment—not a distraction,” he said. “Verify information, stay grounded, and contribute meaningfully.”
In his address, Mr. Iqbal reiterated the government’s commitment to higher education in Balochistan, noting the establishment of new sub-campuses across the province. He emphasized that Balochistan’s progress lies in investing in education, innovation, and inclusive growth. “We are not an underdeveloped country—we are an under-managed country,” he added. “With effective governance and empowered youth, Pakistan can become globally competitive.”
The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor BUITEMS; Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Mirwais Khan Kasi; Registrar (Acting) Mohammad Ahsan Achakzai; Deans and senior faculty members; and a large gathering of students, all of whom engaged enthusiastically in the discussion.
