Quetta: Demonstrating its commitment to experiential learning and academic excellence, the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) organized a three-day educational and laboratory training visit for sixth- and eighth-semester Civil Engineering students to NUST Balochistan Campus (NBC). The training sessions were conducted on 10, 17, and 18 June 2026 to provide students with practical exposure to advanced civil engineering laboratory facilities and professional engineering practices.
The initiative was organized under the supervision of the Department of Civil Engineering and aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical engineering applications. Throughout the visit, students received hands-on training in modern laboratory equipment, testing procedures, analytical techniques, and engineering applications that complement their undergraduate studies.
The successful training program was made possible through the efforts of Prof. Dr. Zafar Baloch, Chairperson of the Department of Civil Engineering, and Engr. Shah Wali, with support from BUITEMS faculty and laboratory engineers, including Mr. Ikhlaq Khan and Engr. Masood Ahmed. At NUST Balochistan Campus, the students were guided by experienced instructors and laboratory experts, including Engr. Jahanzaib, Engr. Bibarg Khan, Engr. Ayesha Aftab, and Engr. Muhammad Mansoor Iqbal, who provided detailed demonstrations and technical guidance throughout the practical sessions.
During the laboratory training, students performed a wide range of experiments in Environmental Engineering, Engineering Hydrology, Hydraulics and Irrigation Engineering, and Reinforced Concrete Design (RCD). The practical exercises included water quality analysis, hydrological data assessment, hydraulic flow experiments, water hammer analysis, tensile testing of steel reinforcement, and compression testing of concrete cylinders, cubes, and bricks using advanced laboratory equipment.
The visit significantly strengthened students' understanding of laboratory procedures, data collection techniques, calibration methods, safety practices, and interpretation of experimental results. By engaging directly with state-of-the-art testing facilities and modern engineering equipment, students enhanced their technical competence, analytical skills, and confidence while gaining valuable insight into professional engineering practices.
