BUITEMS Civil Engineering Students Gain Hands-on Engineering Experience Through Laboratory Training at NUST Balochistan Campus

Quetta: Reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and experiential learning, the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) organized a one-day educational and laboratory training visit for sixth-semester Civil Engineering students to NUST Balochistan Campus (NBC) on 15 June 2026. The initiative provided students with valuable practical exposure to advanced engineering laboratories and modern testing techniques, complementing their classroom learning.
The laboratory training was organized under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Zafar Baloch, Chairperson of the Department of Civil Engineering, and Engr. Shah Wali. BUITEMS faculty members and laboratory engineers, including Mr. Ikhlaq Khan and Engr. Masood Ahmed, accompanied the students throughout the visit. At NUST Balochistan Campus, practical sessions were conducted by experienced laboratory instructors Engr. Jahanzaib, Engr. Bibarg Khan, Engr. Ayesha Aftab, and Engr. Muhammad Mansoor Iqbal, who provided comprehensive demonstrations of modern engineering equipment and laboratory procedures.
During the training, students participated in practical experiments covering Environmental Engineering and Plain and Reinforced Concrete Engineering. The sessions included water turbidity testing, compressive strength testing of concrete cylinders, cubes, and bricks, as well as tensile strength testing of steel using industry-standard laboratory equipment. These activities enabled students to observe professional engineering practices and understand the application of theoretical concepts in real-world engineering environments.
The laboratory sessions significantly enhanced students' understanding of testing procedures, calibration methods, data collection techniques, laboratory safety protocols, and interpretation of engineering test results. Through direct interaction with modern equipment and experienced professionals, students strengthened their analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills while gaining greater confidence in applying engineering principles to practical challenges.
The collaborative training initiative reflects BUITEMS' continued emphasis on providing industry-relevant education through practical learning opportunities and strategic academic partnerships. Such initiatives play a vital role in preparing future civil engineers with the technical expertise, professional competence, and innovative mindset required to contribute effectively to the engineering profession and national development.
