Quetta: On the directives of the Vice Chancellor, BUITEMS, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Dr. Hafeezur Rehman represented Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) at two prestigious international academic events held in China, highlighting the university's growing role in global research collaboration and scientific excellence.
Dr. Hafeezur Rehman participated in the International Conference on Structural Vibration and Intelligent Disaster Prevention, held from 17–19 July 2026 in Xiong'an, China, where he presented his research paper titled "Rockburst-Induced Dynamic Failure in Deep Himalayan Tunnels: Implications for Resilient Civil Infrastructure." The research examined the effects of high in-situ stress, complex Himalayan geology, excavation-induced seismicity, advanced monitoring techniques, and resilient support systems for deep underground infrastructure.
The presentation received the Second Prize at the conference, recognizing its academic quality, technical significance, and practical contribution to the field of tunnel engineering and disaster-resilient infrastructure. The award reflects BUITEMS' commitment to high-quality research and its growing international academic reputation.
Continuing his academic engagement, Dr. Hafeezur Rehman represented BUITEMS at the 2026 China–Pakistan Bilateral Strategic Seminar on the Construction of the Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Smart Disaster Prevention of Major Infrastructures, held on 20 July 2026 at Southeast University, Nanjing, China.
During the seminar, Dr. Rehman presented BUITEMS' academic strengths, research capabilities, and the disaster resilience challenges faced by Balochistan, with particular emphasis on the safety and sustainability of both surface and underground infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the BUITEMS sub-centre through collaborative research, establishment of advanced laboratories, faculty and student exchange programmes, field demonstration projects, technology transfer, and joint scientific initiatives.
The seminar concluded with a joint resolution supporting enhanced China–Pakistan cooperation in smart disaster prevention, resilient infrastructure, international standards, and collaborative academic development. BUITEMS' active participation reaffirmed the university's commitment to international research engagement, knowledge exchange, and long-term scientific collaboration with leading global institutions.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, appreciated Dr. Hafeezur Rehman for representing BUITEMS with distinction on the international stage.
