BUITEMS Hosts “Water Conservation Agenda 2025” – Promoting Innovation and Youth-Led Climate Solutions

Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) successfully organized the “Water Conservation Agenda 2025”—a significant event dedicated to raising awareness about sustainable water management, innovation, and climate resilience. The conference brought together representatives from academia, government, and development organizations to promote collaborative action for a sustainable future.
The event was held in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP), the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Generation Unlimited, the Prime Minister’s Green Youth Movement, and UNICEF. The day-long program featured interactive sessions, innovation showcases, and panel discussions aimed at empowering youth to take leadership roles in addressing Pakistan’s water and climate challenges.

Inaugural Session
The conference began with registration, followed by the recitation from the Holy Quran and the National Anthem. The formal proceedings commenced with an introductory address by the Master of Ceremony, setting the tone for the day’s discussions and activities.
A BUITEMS introductory video was presented to the audience, highlighting the university’s vision, academic excellence, and continuous efforts to foster sustainable development and environmental responsibility among students.
Dr. Muhammad Ali Malik, Joint Secretary, PMYP, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the government’s commitment to empowering youth as active agents of change in addressing the water crisis. His address was followed by digital presentations, including a Digital Youth Hub video and a short documentary on “The Water Situation in Pakistan,” prepared by the PMYP media team.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Muneeb Ur Rehman Khattak, who discussed the urgent need for integrated water resource management, sustainable practices, and technological innovation to overcome Pakistan’s growing water challenges.

Panel Discussion and GreenEnovate Challenge
A thought-provoking panel discussion followed, featuring experts including Mr. Ahmad Hussain, Engr. Murad Ali, Mr. Hassan Raza, Mr. Taimoor Shah Durrani, and Ms. Mariam Javed, moderated by Dr. Anila Ali. The discussion explored innovative and policy-driven approaches to water conservation, climate resilience, and youth entrepreneurship.
Later, the “GreenEnovate Challenge” provided a platform for university students to present practical and research-based solutions to pressing environmental issues. Participants included Mr. Fazal Ur Rehman, Ms. Fizza Mehak Batool, Mr. Dawood Khan Nasir, Mr. Abdul Samad, Mr. Jawad Rafique, Mr. Areeb Ul Haq, Mr. Umer Ali Jan, Ms. Sodha Farooq, and Ms. Maheen Mehar.
The projects were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges comprising Dr. Maqsood Ahmad, Dr. Babar Ali, Ms. Yumna Iftikhar, Dr. Muneeb Khattak, and Mr. Wali Khan. The judges commended the creativity and scientific rigor demonstrated by the participants, highlighting BUITEMS’ role in nurturing innovation and research among youth.

Chief Guest Session After the lunch and prayer break, the Chief Guest, Mr. Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Chairman, Prime Minister’s Youth Program, arrived at the venue. He was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Arbab Mirwais Khan Kasi, Pro-Vice Chancellor BUITEMS and escorted to visit the innovation stalls displaying models and prototypes developed by students.
The Chief Guest was then received in the main conference hall with the National Anthem. Prof. Dr. Arbab Mirwais Khan Kasi, Pro-Vice Chancellor BUITEMS, extended a warm welcome and presented BUITEMS’ initiatives supporting environmental stewardship and youth-led innovation.
The Chairman HEC message was delivered, providing an insightful overview of the PMYP projects executed in partnership with universities across Pakistan, followed by an address by Mr. Muhammad Ameeri, Chief Field Officer, UNICEF Balochistan, who discussed UNICEF’s water and sanitation initiatives and their alignment with Pakistan’s climate goals.
A success story by Muhammad Musa was shared, followed by an engaging video on climate and water, reinforcing the message of collaborative responsibility for water conservation.
The ceremony concluded with an award distribution session, where winners of the GreenEnovate Challenge were recognized, and shields and souvenirs were presented to panelists, judges, keynote speakers, and distinguished guests.

BUITEMS Leadership and Participation
The event was graced by Mr. Mohammad Ahsan Achakzai, Registrar (Acting), along with Deans, Directors, faculty members, and students of BUITEMS, who actively participated throughout the sessions. Representatives and students from other universities across Balochistan were also in attendance, reflecting the inclusive and collaborative spirit of the initiative.
In his concluding remarks, the Chief Guest appreciated BUITEMS’ efforts in organizing a meaningful and impactful event that aligns with national sustainability goals. He praised the university’s commitment to providing platforms where students can translate ideas into practical innovations for a greener and more sustainable Pakistan.
The “Water Conservation Agenda 2025” reaffirmed BUITEMS’ role as a leading institution championing environmental consciousness, innovation, and youth empowerment. Through partnerships with national and international organizations, BUITEMS continues to contribute toward sustainable development, climate action, and community awareness in Balochistan and beyond.
