The Department of Training and Development, Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), organized a two-day training program on “Sustainable Use of Water” from 29th to 30th September 2025.
The training was specifically designed for gardeners and tube-well operators working at BUITEMS Takatu and City Campuses. It aimed to promote sustainable water management practices, reduce wastage, and foster an environmentally responsible campus culture. The initiative was identified and supported by the Directorate of Administration & General Services and the Directorate of Planning & Development at BUITEMS.
The training was conducted by Dr. Imran Ali Sani, from the Faculty of Life Sciences & Informatics, who provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of water conservation methods and eco-friendly irrigation techniques. Topics covered included the importance of water conservation, efficient irrigation scheduling, rainwater harvesting, reuse of water, and the selection of drought-resistant native plant species suitable for Balochistan’s semi-arid climate. Participants also received practical demonstrations on identifying and repairing leaks and adopting soil management practices such as mulching to improve water retention.
During the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor BUITEMS, appreciated the participants’ engagement and the trainers’ efforts. They emphasized BUITEMS’ commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, assuring full support for the implementation of the suggestions proposed by the gardeners during the training. Certificates were also distributed among participants in recognition of their active participation.
The training concluded with several recommendations, including the phase-wise installation of drip irrigation systems, the introduction of a native plant drive to replace water-intensive species, and the establishment of a regular maintenance schedule for irrigation systems. Additionally, the formation of a knowledge-sharing committee comprising trained staff was proposed to ensure the continuation of best practices across campuses.
This initiative reflects BUITEMS’ dedication to environmental sustainability and responsible resource management, aligning with the university’s vision.
