In a significant step toward promoting responsible journalism and strengthening digital media practices in Balochistan, the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO). This partnership—supported technically by UNFPA through a Netherlands-funded initiative—aims to advance ethical, accurate, and knowledge-based media reporting in the province.
Under the MoU, BUITEMS and SPO will collaboratively launch a Media Fellowship Program focused on enhancing media professionals’ capacity in the responsible reporting and representation of gender-based violence (GBV) and child marriage. The fellowship is designed to empower journalists, media students, and practitioners with modern skills, ethical frameworks, and sensitive reporting techniques essential for covering such critical social issues.
The signing ceremony was held at BUITEMS and was graced by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mirwais Kasi, who emphasized the university’s commitment to promoting socially responsible media education and fostering partnerships that contribute to societal development.
The MoU was formally signed by:
Prof. Dr. Mirwais Kasi, Pro Vice Chancellor, BUITEMS
Mir Ahmed Sami, Regional Manager, SPO
Madam Shumaila Perveen, representative of UNFPA
The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Mohammad Ahsan Achakzai, Registrar (Acting), along with Deans, Directors, and the Chairperson of the Mass Communication Department, Mr. Shireen Khan, as well as other distinguished faculty members.
This collaboration marks a meaningful advancement in BUITEMS’ efforts to support responsible journalism, informed public discourse, and evidence-based policy advocacy in Balochistan. BUITEMS remains committed to fostering partnerships that strengthen academic excellence and societal well-being.
