The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with the support of the European Union (EU), the Balochistan Police, and the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), organized an Awareness Session on “Gender Responsive Services in Balochistan Police” at the Pink Hall, Takatu Campus, BUITEMS.

The event aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of gender-responsive policing, highlight the ongoing reforms within the Balochistan Police, and promote inclusive, community-oriented approaches to law enforcement. The session was facilitated by the Directorate of Student Affairs and Academics, BUITEMS and attended by faculty members, students, and representatives from partner organizations.

The session began with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Abdul Wadood, Director Student Affairs and Academics, BUITEMS, who emphasized the importance of academic institutions in promoting awareness on gender equality, inclusivity, and responsible citizenship. He appreciated UNODC, the European Union, and the Balochistan Police for choosing BUITEMS as a platform to engage students and young professionals in meaningful dialogue on social justice and institutional reform.

Distinguished speakers included Mr. Afzal Sheikh (Programme Manager, UNODC), Ms. Abishay Bisharat (Victim Support Officer, Women and Juvenile Facilitation Centre), Ms. Sajida Shakoor (Balochistan Police), Ms. Shazia (Incharge, Women and Juvenile Facilitation Centre), and SP Syed Talal Shah (SP Operations, Quetta).

Syed Talal Shah shared insights into the Balochistan Police’s initiatives to promote gender-sensitive policing, including the development of the Women Safety App and the establishment of the Women and Juvenile Facilitation Centre (WJFC) to ensure accessibility, protection, and support for women and juveniles.

Representatives from UNODC discussed international best practices and collaborative efforts supported by the European Union, emphasizing the importance of gender mainstreaming in law enforcement and the role of educational institutions in advancing these goals.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where BUITEMS students actively participated, asking thoughtful questions and engaging in discussions on gender equality, public safety, and social responsibility.

This collaborative effort between UNODC, the European Union, the Balochistan Police, and BUITEMS reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering awareness, promoting gender inclusivity, and strengthening partnerships for a more equitable and just society.
