BUITEMS Organizes Seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention”

The Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) successfully organized a comprehensive seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention”, aimed at educating the university community and promoting a proactive approach toward health, wellness, and early detection. The event was proudly sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), allowing it to be held on a large scale with participants from multiple institutions across Quetta.
The seminar, held at BUITEMS Takatu Campus, was organized by a dedicated committee led by Chief Organizer Ms. Tahani Uzair, with the support of Prof. Dr. Asma Yousafzai, Dr. Gohram Malghani, Dr. Abdul Wajid, Dr. Rameez Ishaq, Prof. Dr. Shahjahan Shabbir, Dr. Imrana Niaz Sultan, and Dr. Rozina Sheikh. The event was attended by a large number of female students and faculty members from BUITEMS, SBK Women University, University of Balochistan, and Al-Hamd University.
A distinguished panel of medical experts delivered insightful presentations on the medical, surgical, and preventive aspects of breast cancer:
Dr. Uzma Sohail, Head of Department at BMC, discussed breast cancer symptoms, risk factors, and early detection methods.
Dr. Naqib Ullah, Oncologist at Aria Hospital, presented modern advancements in cancer treatment and oncology research.
Dr. Marium Saleem, Breast Surgery Specialist at Aria Hospital, elaborated on surgical procedures and post-operative care.
Dr. Mahjabeen Marri from CENAR Hospital shared regional clinical insights and practical case studies.
Representing the Balochistan Ministry of Health, Dr. Hayat Sasoli presented the province’s official Breast Cancer Awareness Policy, emphasizing the government’s dedication to preventive healthcare and the importance of institutional collaboration between universities and medical bodies.
Dr. Sohail Khan, CEO of Aria Hospital, also addressed the audience, stressing that early detection can save countless lives and urging students to play an active role in raising awareness within their communities.
In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Naeem Shahwani, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences and Informatics, praised the organizers, speakers, and sponsors for their commitment, noting that the seminar served as an essential platform to enhance public health awareness and empower youth through knowledge.
The event was further honored by the presence of Dr. Shabir Ahmed Lehri, Vice Chancellor, Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS), and Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Bazai, Vice Chancellor, University of Balochistan, who appreciated BUITEMS for its efforts in creating health awareness and fostering inter-institutional collaboration in Balochistan.
The closing ceremony was graced by His Excellency Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Governor of Balochistan and Chancellor BUITEMS, and Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor BUITEMS, who commended the dedication of the organizers and shared personal reflections on the human and social impact of breast cancer.
This impactful event reaffirmed BUITEMS’ commitment to promoting health awareness, community welfare, and social responsibility, while inspiring students and faculty to champion preventive healthcare and health education across Balochistan.
