As part of BUITEMS' ongoing commitment to providing efficient and user-friendly digital solutions, the university has introduced the BUITEMS Self-Service Portal - a secure, web-based platform designed in house by the Directorate of IT Services, to simplify the process of changing Active Directory (AD) passwords. This system allows students, faculty, and staff to reset or change their passwords from anywhere, without the need to physically visit the university's data center or contact the IT helpdesk.

With this new tool, BUITEMS continues its mission to leverage modern technology to enhance user experience and boost operational efficiency across campus.

Key Features of the BUITEMS Self-Service Portal
  • Remote Password Management
    The primary function of the portal is to allow users to securely change or reset their Active Directory password remotely. Whether on-campus or off-campus, users can access the portal through any internet-connected device and manage their login credentials with ease.
  • User-Friendly Interface
    The Self-Service Portal is designed with a simple and intuitive user interface, ensuring that even users with minimal technical knowledge can manage their passwords without difficulty. The portal includes step-by-step instructions to guide users through the process of changing or resetting their password.
  • Secure Access
    The portal is integrated with the university’s existing security framework to ensure that all password management actions are secure. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required to confirm the user’s identity before any password can be changed. This additional layer of security helps protect user accounts from unauthorized access.
  • Integration with Active Directory
    The portal is fully integrated with BUITEMS' Active Directory (AD) system, ensuring seamless synchronization of user credentials across the university’s IT infrastructure. Once a user changes their password through the portal, the updated credentials are automatically applied to all associated services, including BUITEMS Smart Wi-Fi, Campus Management Solution, Staff Attendance Management System and network access (for designated users only).
  • 24/7 Availability
    The BUITEMS Self-Service Portal is accessible 24/7, giving users the flexibility to manage their passwords at their convenience, without needing to rely on IT support during business hours. This ensures uninterrupted access to essential university services and applications.
Key Features of the BUITEMS Self-Service Portal
  • User Authentication
    To begin, users should visit the BUITEMS Self-Service Portal at https://profile.buitms.edu.pk/. If they need to reset their password, they can click on the "Forgot Password" option and verify their identity by entering their username or ID, based on whether they belong to the Faculty, Staff, or Student group. After clicking "Next," a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the registered email address, ensuring that only the rightful account owner can change the password. The OTP must then be entered on the Self-Service portal to proceed with changing the password in the next step.
  • Password Change Interface
    Once authentication is complete, users are guided to the password change interface, where they can enter their new password. The portal includes built-in security policies that ensure users create strong passwords, meeting predefined complexity requirements such as minimum length, inclusion of numbers, special characters, and avoiding commonly used passwords.
  • Active Directory Synchronization
    After the new password is submitted, the system automatically updates the user’s credentials in the Active Directory. The new password is then applied to all university services linked to the user's AD account, including BUITEMS Smart Wi-Fi, Campus Management Solution, Staff Attendance Management System.
  • Confirmation and Notification
    Upon successful password change, users receive a confirmation email providing assurance that their account has been securely updated. This confirmation also includes helpful information on what to do if the user encounters any issues logging into their account after the change.
