The Senate
The senate is the authority responsible for the governance of the University and
comprises 15 members. Headed by the honorable Chancellor, the senate has the power of general supervision over the University and holds the vice Chancellor and
other University authorities accountable for all functions of the university.
It has the powers:
- To approve the proposed annual plan of work, the annual and revised budgets, the
annual report and the annual statement of account.
- To hold, control and
lay down policy for the administration of the property, funds
and investment of the university, including the approval of the sale and purchase
or acquisition of immovable property.
- To oversee the quality and relevance of the University academic programs and to
review the academic affairs of the University in general.
- To approve the appointment of Deans, Professors, Associate Professors and such
other senior faculty and senior administrators.
- To institute schemes, directions and guidelines for the terms and conditions of
appointment of all officers, teachers and other employees of the University.
- To approve strategic plans.
- To consider the drafts of statutes and
regulations proposed by the university Syndicate
and the academic Council.
