Department of Microbiology
Microbiology is the study of micro organisms, including bacteria, fungi and viruses if lies at the heart of life sciences embracing the additional disciplines of immunology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and pathology. There is hardly any area of medicine or industry unaffected by microbes, Microbes are also important for different environment cycles.

Although microbes can harm humans, animals and plants by their pathogenesis but there negative aspects are over weighted by their benefits. To diagnose the different diseases that threaten our lives, crops and livestock, it is very essential to know the process of pathogenesis, which would be covered by the microbiology related pathology section.

Importance

When choosing a career in microbiology one should be prepared to embrace the multidisciplinary sciences. Many microbiologists and biotechnologists are responsible for different drug discoveries and techniques which benefit lives one way or other.

Because of the immense importance of microorganisms in all aspects of our health and wealth, microbiologists are always in demand specially in fields of pharmaceuticals, food & beverage industry, vaccine development, health care products, agriculture, plant and seed prevention, clinical human & livestock pathologies and diagnosis , research centers & laboratories, environmental companies, renewable energy and bioremediation sector, public health laboratories and teaching & academia.

  • Microbial diagnosis, research, and monitoring treatments.
  • Learn the basic principles of microbiology through the study of the causes, mechanisms of development and possible outcomes of diseases.
  • Understanding the defense and repair processes which are commonly used by the body when a malfunction of a tissue or organ occurs.
  • Study of cellular, molecular and chemical mechanisms in life.
  • Learning the unity of diversified life at chemical, molecular and cellular and the mechanisms contributing in diversity in structures and functions in organisms.
  • Application of the above knowledge will help in technological procedures in animal, plant, health, industry and environment.
  • Skills in the use of tools and processes of computronics, in understanding, sorting and identifying the massive chemical and molecular information in living organisms obtained thorough researches.
  • Know how of use of global network of microbiology related technologies.
  • To adapt to multidisciplinary approach to equip the students with multidisciplinary career opportunities.
  • Microorganisms also play a central role in recombinant DNA technology and act as the agents for genetic modification. Applying knowledge gained from these techniques can lead to many improvements in the quality of our lives. In this way microbiology makes an important contribution to biotechnology, an area of science that applies industrial techniques to biological processes.
